Five free resources to learn French

Learning French can be fun and rewarding, especially if you have the right ressources.

In this article, we'll explore five free tools I've tested that will help you improve your French. Whether you're a beginner or just want to make progress in the language, these resources will make it easier for you to learn.

Let's discover them together!

1. To reinforce your conjugation ▸ Conjugator Reverso

The Reverso website is great for improving French conjugation. It provides complete tables for all verbs, showing every tense and mood. The site is easy to use and offers example sentences and audio pronunciations. It’s perfect for anyone looking to master French verb forms, from beginners to advanced learners.

2. To improve your spelling ▸ La dictée d'Archibald

La dictée d'Archibald is designed for students of all levels: beginners, intermediate, and advanced. The dictations cover various subjects, from literature and history to science and culture. They are read by an actor and accompanied by a transcript, so you can immediately check your answers and understand any mistakes. It's great!

3. To boost your listening comprehension ▸ Le journal en français facile

Radio France International is an international news podcast for beginner and intermediate French learners. It is broadcast daily at 6:00 pm (Paris time) and lasts 10 minutes. The journalist uses simplified vocabulary and syntax to make current affairs accessible to all. Moreover, you get the transcript to check that you've understood everything.

4. To test your reading skills ▸ Lingua

On Lingua.com you can read articles on various subjects suitable for beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels. I advise you to read each text twice: once without the audio and once with the audio to practice. Then, answer questions to check your reading comprehension. You also get free access to the PDF! It's great!

5. To perfect your pronunciation ▸ Google Translate

Google Translate is much more than just a translation tool. It offers a valuable feature: audio pronunciation. Simply type in a word or phrase in French, then click on the speaker icon. That's it! You can listen to the pronunciation as many times as you like!
